About Amy | Rooted Senses

Welcome – Thank you for being here.
Hi, I'm Amy. I am a certified somatic practitioner, 500-hour yoga teacher, and pediatric occupational therapist with over 13 years of experience helping sensitive nervous systems find resilience.
My passion is supporting children, adults, and families who feel overwhelmed by the pace of life.
Rooted Senses provides a gentle space for those wanting to feel safer and more grounded in their daily rhythms.
My Integrated Approach
The blend of clinical expertise and holistic, body-based wisdom is what makes my approach unique.
My insights come from observing what truly works, both in my own lived experience and through:
–Occupational Therapy: 13 years specializing in sensory integration, co-regulation, and family-centered care.
–Somatics & Yoga: Trauma-informed somatic grounding, breathwork & mindful movement to address regulation at its root.
Together, we'll explore what overwhelms and regulates you, learning to create tools and routines that bring you to steadiness.
A Space for Safety
My work is rooted in warmth, compassion, and presence. This is a space where your unique journey is honored, not judged. A space where you are met with softness, understanding, and safety.

Logistics & What to Expect

Q: Is this Occupational Therapy or counseling?
A: No, Rooted Senses provides sensory and nervous system regulation support. This is not therapy or mental health treatment. While I am a licensed Occupational Therapist and my background informs my approach, these sessions are educational and supportive, not clinical therapy. We focus on building tools for self-regulation rather than diagnosing or treating medical conditions.
Q: Where do sessions take place?
A: All sessions are available either virtually or in-home near the Salem, OR area. Both offer the same support to understand your nervous system and create regulating rhythms — the difference is simply in how we work together. One is more hands-on, the other more guided.
–In-Home Sessions: More hands-on and experiential. We use movement, touch, warmth, textures, and your home environment to support regulation. This is ideal for young children, sensory exploration, and real-time modeling.
–Virtual Sessions: More spacious and reflective. I guide you (or your family) through simple sensory practices using what you already have at home. This format is perfect for parent coaching, somatic practices, building routines, and adult sessions.
Q: What happens on our intro call?
A: We'll chat briefly about what you are hoping for and I'll explain how Rooted Senses might be able to help. We see if we feel like a good fit to work together—no pressure, just conversation. If we are not a good fit, I will try to guide you toward supportive resources.
Q: Do I need prior yoga or meditation experience?
A: No, this work is about awareness, mindfulness, and regulation, not physical performance. All abilities are welcome.
Q: Can you tell me more about the optional Safe & Sound Protocol program mentioned?
A: Yes, I am trained in SSP and iLs listening programs. They are optional add-ons to sessions for deeper nervous system support. SSP is a listening-based program, based upon polyvagal theory, used to support emotional balance, regulation, and connection. Please reach out for details.
Q: Are payment plans, sliding scales, or low-income options available?
A: Rooted Senses is a wellness-based service and does not bill insurance or provide medical codes, therefore all sessions are private pay. However, I believe this work should be accessible to all. While I try to keep rates low, if my current rates are a barrier to accessing support, please book a complimentary intro call or email me directly at [email protected] to discuss options that may work for you.
Q: How is this approach helpful for neurodivergent adults or children?
A: The combination of my own personal experiences and integrative background in sensory integration, somatics, and yoga uniquely places me to intuitively understand how sensitive nervous systems process the world and everyone's preferences are different. I am highly sensitive to and respect your needs as we find tools that work with your unique system, not against it.
Q: Can both parents attend the parent-child sessions?
A: Yes, co-regulation works best when both caregiver and child are involved! :)
